This is an example of a star plot. A star plot represents multivariate data in the form of a star. Each star is representative of a single data set. In this case each star represents a different car model. Enjoy!!!

Correlation Matrix

Shown is a picture of multi-color picture that represents correlated dynamics between all pairs of proteins for a simple virus, phage T7. Correlated behavior ranges from high (red) to low (blue)http://yin.che.wisc.edu/images.htm

This is a correlation matrix of proteins. This is a matrix giving correlations between all pairs of data sets. In this specific case this is showing correlations between different proteins. Enjoy!!!

Similarity Matrix

http://cbrg.ethz.ch/Server/ServerBooklet/section2_14.html

This is a similarity matrix. A similarity matrix is a matrix of scores that shows the similarity between two data points. This maps out data and how they are similar to each other. This specific graph is an amino acid similarity matrix. This is showing the amount of similarity between different elements. enjoy!!

Stem and leaf plot

table#1.gif (6324 bytes)http://mainland.cctt.org/mathsummer/JosephBond/StemAndPlots/stem-and-leaf_std.htm

This is a stem and leaf plot. It is a quantitative way of representing data. It uses a number group such as tens hundreds thousands and so forth and maps out how many numbers occur in each group of numbers. In this plot this is a plot of per capita GNP of western Africa.

Box plot

box plot comparing four machines for energy outputhttp://itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/boxplot.htm

This is a box plot. A box plot graphs are graphs that uses the five number properties which are the smallest value, lower quartile, median, upper quartile, and the highest value. Here there is a comparison of 4 different machines where they use the box plot to represent the data found on every trial run of each machine. Enjoy!!

Histogram

sample histogramhttp://itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/histogra.htm

This is a histogram chart. A histogram chart is a chart that uses the number of times a certain result appears and places that count in a bin and uses a bar to represent the number of times a piece of data occurred. In this particular graph there were a lot of data that occurred in the 299.8 range. Enjoy!!

Parallel Coordinate Graph

http://www.stat.columbia.edu/~cook/movabletype/mlm/mdg1.png

This is a parallel coordinate graph. A parallel coordinate graph is a graph where it compares mulivariate data to one another on a graph. In this graph, the data is moving across the x coordinate of the graph and is giving different values of y. Enjoy!!

This is a triangular plot map of maximum humidity on the island of Kauai. A triangular plot is a barycentric plot of three variables that add up to a constant. This plot demonstrats the maximum humidity experienced off the coast of Kauai. Notice that there is a low humidity area between AASZ-B19 and AASZ-B17. Enjoy!!

Windrose

http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/climate/fresno_apr.gif
This is a windrose map and what makes this windrose map is a meteorological map showing the distribution of wind speed and wind direction at a location over a period of time. It is oriented in the cardinal directions.
This map shows strong winds coming from the north west. The location of this plot is in Fresno California.
Enjoy!!!

Climograph

http://www.uwsp.edu/geo/faculty/ritter/glossary/A_D/climograph.html

This is a climograph of Memphis Tennessee. Trends in this graph can demonstrate which hemisphere a place is located. Based on the temperature trend on the Climograph, one can know that Mamphis is located in the northern hemisphere based on when the temperature peaks occur. In this graph the temperature peaks occur in June and July. In the winter in Memphis this is when there is the most precipitation and this is from the increase in cold fronts that come through the area during the winter. What makes this a Climograph is that it has a record of the history of average precip. and temperatures of the whole year.  Enjoy!!

Population Profile

http://www.allgirlsallowed.org/demographic-crisis-china-statistics

This profile is an example of China population profile. Looking at the profile there are more old people than young people. This is due to the one child policy implemented by the Chinese government in 1970 and since then birth rates have dropped drastically. Also there are selective abortions where female babies are aborted so that a family can keep a male baby to provide for the family. What makes this a population profile is that it has bar graphs of people in different age groups.

Scatter plot

http://www.icoachmath.com/math_dictionary/scatter_plot.html

This is a plot of studying in relation to test scores in math. The more hours of studying math the general trend of the plot is that ones test scores would go up. The A's put in 30 hours of studying for the test which is almost a full time job. School is hard work What makes this a scatterplot is that there are different points placed on a coordinate chart based on two factors. Enjoy!!!

Index value plot

There are areas where there a lot of cancer cases but the statistics of many areas are unrelaiable. this map hows that there need to be more accurate and up to date information. What makes this a standardized Chloropleth map is that that are defined polygons which are counties that the colors correlate to.

Univariate Chloropleth map

http://www.cdc.gov/pcd/issues/2007/oct/07_0091.htm

This is a map of the United  States where this demonstrates the percentage of people living in poverty in the United States. There are some areas where there are a high percentage of the people are living in poverty. This appears to be lined across the south of the United States. This makes this a univariate chloropleth map because of the color that is selected and because there is only one variable.   Enjoy!!

This is an unclassed chloropleth map of the united states representing the change in population in the 1960's decade. Notice that Florida had the biggest change and the Northeast and Southwest. During this time these were desired areas where people wanted to make a move to. What makes this unclassified is because the factors the colors are representing are not a specific number or class. It is by percent so it is a ratio.
Enjoy!!
